These little devils are wildly scattered all across the terrain of the Southwest, preventing barefoot walking, flattening bicycle tires, and forcing me to spend nearly an hour meticulously cleaning the ground the other night, here in Sierra Blanca, carefully seeking out and sweeping away scores of stabbing goatheads before setting up my tent and settling off to sleep...
